And not from some itsy bitsy teenie weenie country either!
After his 3rd place in Oklahoma-Tulsa today, Christian Van den Plas was awarded the tri-colored jersey of Belgium.
For the 27-year old who's generally considered not of sufficient quality to earn a spot in the Belgian national team, this is a great achievement. It comes near the end of a stunning season in which very few things went wrong for him. With 6 wins, 5 further podium places, and a few more top 9 results, he almost singlehandedly catapulted Jajatazi from Div. 4 to Div. 2 over the course of the season.
He only holds a very slim lead in the Belgian ranking, so there's a good chance he'll have to give up the jersey again before his next race on Wednesday. But however brief the moment turns out to be, from now on, for the rest of his career, he'll always be a "former Belgian champion."

It's ok, he dropped some points today so would have lost it anyway. :)
I knew it would be short-lived, but it was a nice cherry on the season-pie to get there briefly. :)
Thanks, everyone!
sorry! :D
Julius has a bad team now... But wit Pelgrims will take it soon
Has he maxed yet?
congrats for VdPlas! But, Yannick isn't very happy with it, and is looking to take the jersey back. However, it's very hard to keep the national jersey with this kind of competition for the first place in Belgium. And VdPlas really deserved it with al his achievements this season...
Brilliant season! Just had a look at his results... Great way to earn heaps of money so you can try to establish yourself in Zyte!
Congrats Flu. Well done turning VdPlas into a champion despite his numbers ;-)
Congratulations. :) Unbelievable he is scoring this well. I'll try my best to take over the jersey though. ;)
